The Season of Self-Love

Valentine’s Day isn’t the only time to express your love. Whether you’re sending your loved ones a text just to tell them you’re thinking of them, or drawing a hot relaxing bath after a long week, it’s important to keep the values of Valentine’s day current even after February comes to a close.

One of our favorite expressions of love is self-love and we wanted to compile a list of ideas to treat yourself this month, next month, and every other month of the year! Your body takes a lot of grief during daily activities. Take some extra time to show it some love!

Celebrate Your Successes

We all have goals we are working towards. If you’re trying to go to the gym more, obtain a better outlook, eat better,  or take more time for yourself, all of these goals create opportunities to celebrate success. Too often we look forward to the next goal or milestone without taking time to celebrate success.

Take the time to celebrate the little victories! Celebrate going to the gym 5 days in a row. Celebrate eating healthy for more than half of your meals in thee week. Celebrate going  to bed earlier. These little victories add up to a goal to better yourself and your wellness, and that’s what self-love is all about!

Embrace Uniqueness

Too often, we can get so caught up comparing ourselves to others we forget an important fact: Life is not a competition. So take a moment to appreciate what makes you, you! Whether it’s your sense of humor or the way you dress, there’s something unique about all of us that we can be proud of!

If you’ve been struggling with appreciating your uniqueness, consider making a list of everything that sets you apart from the crowd. Think about your drive, your determination, and your perseverance. We all tackle life differently. Appreciate how far you’ve come and how far you’ll continue to go. Making a list doesn’t have to be as superficial as looks and appearance, but as genuine and authentic as your character.

Make Time For Your Hobbies

When we get busy, we often cut out the things that mean the most to us. Often, those things are our hobbies and passions. Our next recommendation to practice self-love is to make time for your hobbies. Hobbies can be anything you enjoy doing, from reading for pleasure, to joining a rec league soccer team.

Hobbies help break up the monotony of our everyday lives and keep things interesting! You can also take the time to try a new hobby. Maybe you’ve always wanted to try pottery or bird watching. If you had a hobby in the past that you couldn’t keep up with, get back into it! Taking the time to do what you enjoy is a fantastic way to practice loving yourself.

Take Care of Your Body

Our final tip to practice self-love is to take extra care of your body. Consider the products you’re using on your skin. Make sure you’re taking time to exercise, even if it’s just stretching after a long day of sitting. Cook meals that nourish your whole body, not just your taste buds.

Another way to take care of your body is to make time to see your doctors regularly. Whether you’ve been putting off your yearly physical, or getting your teeth cleaned, take care of your body so it is in tip top shape for years to come. The team here at Seven Hills Dermatology can take care of scheduling your yearly skin check so you can cross that off your self-care checklist!

Love Of Self & Love Of Others

According to the ancient Greeks, there are eight distinctly different types of love. Philautia, or Love of Self, is just as important as the many other types of love. Don’t overlook yourself this year. Make time for yourself in the same way we make time for others. Doing so will make you feel very loved!
